And this little piggy ended up as a shoe...

An interesting thing happened yesterday when I followed Nick to get his "CNY" shoes. He had decided to try on a pair of Adidas Goodyear Street shoes that were brown with suede trimmings. The shoes were driving shoes and Nick has been planning to replace his Puma ones (there's a hole in the side!). The thing about the shoes was that the suede bits were made of pigskin. Saying that, you can imagine how delicately the matter was handled. Literally.

We were at the Leisure Mall branch of Royal Sporting House and the employees yesterday were all working very hard to cater to the CNY crowd. The staff on duty yesterday were all Malays. Here's the rather amusing part. Due to the shoe having pigskin bits, they held it like it was coated with poo and carried the plague. Nick and I couldn't help but be amused.

When we were paying for the shoes, the girl at the counter had to take the shoes out of the box to scan it. I tried to be nice and told her that the suede was the pigskin leather and the rest was synthetic leather. She in turn asked me, rather rudely, "You macam mana tau?" ("How do you know?"). what would I gain from conning her into touching pigskin? Sheesh!

Anyhow, tomorrow, I'll be sitting for my marketing paper. Goodness! I hope I fare well... wish me luck folks!

What’s with all the Bus Crashes?!!?

I just popped over to Kenny Sia's blog. There was a small post on a girl that was killed in a bus accident. Turns out, she was a friend of one of my friends. Small world? The shit thing about this accident is that the screwed up bus driver that has 13 summons got away with only a broken leg. I get it if driving the bus is the only way he can feed his family or what not, but dude! You killed people! This isn't the first time bus accidents have occurred. The few times that I take public transport, I thank God it isn't to other states. Heck! Even the bus we take during our field work, though considered safer, can be a rollercoaster ride!! I have seen more than once, the crazy way bus drivers manoeuvre their buses through traffic and on the highway, they're downright scary!

I don't get it why the bus companies are willing to risk their reputations for a bunch of cheap drivers that driver like loonies and have driving offenses left, right and centre. It's not like they can't find other people to drive? Not only that, the lawsuits and what not that would be hitting them in the face when they kill people with their lousy buses isn't really worth it, is it? More than once, I have seen a bus so full with people, a sudden stop may result in them thrown out of the vehicle. There is no strict laws being enforced to ensure that regulations are kept to. Buses with black smoke shouldn't be on the road. There was once the incident a lady fell out because the bus moved suddenly and it was too full!

It breaks my heart to see news like this.

Greed is the downfall of man, and the innocents are the ones that pay.

There's a website that's petitioning for safer long distance bus journeys. Check it out.

Explosives, Gore, Blood, Sweat and Tears...

I have just watched Rambo 4, and all I can say is... HOLY GUACAMOLE! It's a fabulous 18sg show with just the right amount of gore and action. The dialogue is short but sweet, and the action speaks louder than words. A good ending to the Rambo series. The opening itself was something special.

If you guys are action junkies, this show is really good. Nick and I were impressed at the realistic shots of body parts flying and blood spilling all over the place. There's even a scene where the blood seems to splatter onto the camera. Awesome!

Anyways, onto boring and not as exciting news, I have a final exam on the 5th. Due to that, I'm off to hit the books as I surf the internet in between breaks. *chuckle!* other than that, I'll be having to sacrifice my precious blood, sweat and tears for this damn paper... Bah HUMBUG!!!

*by the way, have you guys read Xiaxue's blog? That girl can really spend money. Wow! How did she earn so much?

2008 here I... Aaaaaachooooo! *Sniffle...*

I am currently akin to Rudolph the red nosed reindeer... I have an awful cold and have been sneezing the whole day! Sigh! So in a nutshell, my day has been a sniffling and red-nosed miserable day. The highlight of the day? My dear taking me out for lunch and giving me a lot of T and C. Of course, that's because of the miserable whining and sniffling I used to gain his sympathy... I'm shameless...

I have not been blogging lately due to classes during the summer. There has however been a few incidences as of late that has been irking me to a degree. One is the issue whereby other religions are not allowed to use the word "Allah" to address their God. Ok, fine, I may be bias as I am a Christian, and a Catholic at that. I am very proud of my religion, though we do have our shameful moments in history, as with every other religion. Christians have always adopted the "Holier-than-thou" approach to everything. I don't think I'm like that though. Anyways, I oppose the ministry's decision to make the word "Allah" exclusive to Muslims alone.

"The one, supreme, and only God, the creator of the world and the universe. The term "Allah" is used by Muslims and many Arabic-speaking Christians alike to refer to the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob whom adherents of Christianity, Islam, and Judaism worship.
Muslims use the name "Allah" interchangeably with the name "God."... "

Taken from: http://isaalmasih.net/other/glossary.html

Pray tell, what makes it exclusive to Muslims? If I'm not mistaken, the Christians in the middle east call upon God as Allah too. Right? Not to mention, the native Christian communities that speak Malay only have addressed God as Allah for all this while. Even Indonesia does not have the restriction to who gets to use the word. Allah = God. So does that mean that Muslims are not allowed to use the word "Tuhan" and "God"? after all, it would only be fair that they are not allowed to use "non-muslim" terms to address the deity that they pray to.

This is the problem with Malaysia. We have a ministry run by close-minded fools (yes, this under-grad who keeps failing genetic subjects has just called you bunch of arrogant, ignorant pricks fools) that think that just because the Malay race in Malaysia is the "superior" race, we have to submit to their extremists. Haven't they seen what extremists have become? Look at Osama, the Al Qaeda, and the Taliban. Nothing good came of these extremists. True, it was in the constitution that they are the "special" race. The "bumiputra" have long been pampered with the NEP which obviously hasn't helped much. At the risk of sounding racist, despite the NEP, large numbers of Malays still live in poverty. I'm not saying all Malays are useless. Don't get me wrong! I have plenty of Malay friends that are much more successful in both academics and life than I am. These few are those that make an effort to break from the mould

But I digress, haven't I? I honestly believe that "Allah" should not be limited exclusively to Muslims. It isn't fair to the Christian Malay speaking communities in Malaysia. What's the point of trying to get us to speak our national language more often when you don't even allow us to fully utilise all the word properly? Yes, I know I may be treading on thin ice, but just had to let out my bit to educate others.

A Little Update

I recently got a request from a friend to update my blog. So this is the update. Not much is happening in my life right now. The most is that I managed to pass my driving test and that at the moment, I'm doing summer school. This very wonderfully mundane summer, I'm doing marketing as my last elective. Luckily I have Nick's old stuff to look through as reference. I'm even borrowing his text book instead of using my own!

Next week, my mum and youngest brother will be coming up to KL to visit Des and I. At the moment, mum, dad and Bert are at my maternal grandmother's place. She fell down last week and my mum is there to check on her. That's the thing about old people, they tend to fall down a lot, and the sad thing is that most of the time, it happens because there's no one there to look after them. Hence, the falling down.

Tonight, I think I will be having my dinner alone. Now, don't feel sorry for me! I'm ok with eating alone! I also have to re-budget and see if there's enough money to last the month. Especially since it's Christmas in a couple of weeks. I'm honestly having a bit of a headache trying to figure out what to get for everyone. My cash is pretty tight and it doesn't help that the only income I am getting is my allowance. Anyone know any cheap but nice places?

Been streaming and watching shows off the internet since I don't have Astro and since the government has decided to spend its precious resources on hunting down downloading fiends! Isn't it great that you know that your hard-earned-tax-money has gone to cracking down on people that download movies or games? Wow! Can you imagine? The safer streets and peaceful nights of sleep once these downloading pirates have been locked up behind bars? (if you do not see the sarcasm in this, you ought to be hanged!)

Anyway, I think I best be headed downstairs to buy my groceries for dinner. I will try to update as often as possible, though I don't understand why you would want to read about my pathetic existence. Anyhow, toodles for now my serfs. Be happy and make merry as I slave in the kitchen to prepare grub worthy for my body to consume...

Pictures! Pictures! Pictures!! :)

These pictures are some of the pics i took of the hornbills that visited our house. i couldn't go right out and snap pictures of them as they're so shy! they fly off at the sight of a human sneaking into the back yard! and to think! they're the invaders! :P i also put in a picture of the swallow nest in the garage. the pictures may seem a little blurry, so sorry for that :P the pictures of the hornbills were taken indoors through the window and the window was a bit dirty :P

and yes, my previous post was ended so ubruptly it was awful. forgive your not-so-humble Beat.

I have not been blogging as of late, and for that, I am sorry. Been busy unpacking for the first week in Brunei and for the past few days, I have been a boring lump that has parked her delicately huge ass on a chair in front of her internet-less laptop. I hope though, I can be forgiven for this misdemeanour. Anyhow, Brunei is as it has always been, a slow little town with slow traffic, with its slow and relaxing pace. My brother has been watching Friends and laughing at odd intervals as he has his earphones on, thus making it very odd to hear. My parents, they do their parent-stuff and the youngest brother is busy with his own school stuff, leaving me, the very bored Beat.

Brunei is overall a nice place to bring up your children, but not really the place for fast paced people to live. I need a mixture of both, so sometimes, I'm rather content with sitting outside and soaking up the sun and breathing the fresh air. But later, I would be restless and need to run out screaming! The pictures that I will post are of the hornbills that visit my garden pretty regularly. My brother and I have spotted monitor lizards, skinks and other reptiles and birds on the yard. Just down the road (in a sense of speaking) we have a beach. Then again, Shell treats their employees well I suppose.

Although my phone is on roaming, I don't dare message Nick much. Roaming charges me RM2 for every SMS I send to him. I came here with 30++ bucks and I am left with only 50 cents. Amazing right? I can't wait to get back to KL in a way that I have nearly unlimited internet and I have full coverage for my phone, and messaging my boyfriend wouldn't make me broke within a second! Nick is working in uni with Dr Keith so at least he's occupied with something. I on the other hand will be doing summer school this summer break. I will be helping out during the open day to earn me RM40, measly I know, but money is money and I really want to get me a new phone with a cam :P. I've been eyeballing K630i. It has nice colours and looks nice. It isn't too big or too small. Just nice. I also like that it isn't a joystick that is used for navigation.

I’m Home, I’m Tired and I’m A Tree-Hugging Hippy!!!

Honey I'm home!!! Yes I am! I know this post is more or less late, but can you blame me? I had to catch up with all the work that I DID not do when I went to the wonderful Taman Negara and Kuala Selangor! I had so much fun there that time really flew by way too fast for my liking. This particular post will not have the long-awaited pictures as I'm still working out the kinks in vista. By the way people, I still love XP very much. This little post is just to let you all know that this blog is not dead, but it's on a small vacation as the writer is undergoing intense stress courtesy of the gazillion and one things that piled up over the holiday. But I don't regret a moment of it. If I were to make a trip back in time, the only I would change is that I wouldn't have fallen asleep on the last night in Kuala Selangor to prank the lot of you with toothpaste on your faces and counterpain on your necks! *cue evil laughter*.

I really should be doing my report now though, so I will! I will post a longer more interesting post in due time, but please have mercy on a pitiful uni student like me. Take care everyone and don't do anything I wouldn't do! (which isn't much!) hahah!

Upgrades!!!

I hope this doesn't happen to me!

Dear IT Support,

Last year I upgraded from Boyfriend 5.0 to Husband 1.0 and noticed a slow down in the overall performance, particularly in the flower, gifts and jewellery applications that had operated flawlessly under Boyfriend 5.0.

In addition, Husband 1.0 un-installed many other valuable programs, such as Romance 9.5 and Personal Attention 6.5, but installed undesirable programs such as Formula One 5.0, NBA 3.0 and World Cup 2.0.

And now Conversation 8.0 no longer runs and House Cleaning 2.6 simply crashes the system. I've tried running Nagging 5.3 to fix these problems, but to no avail.

What can I do?

Signed,
Desperate Housewife

Reply:
Dear Desperate Housewife,

First keep in mind:
Boyfriend 5.0 is an entertainment package, while Husband 1.0 is an operating system.

Try entering the command C:\ I THOUGHT YOU LOVED ME and download Tears 6.2 to install Guilt 3.0.

If all works as designed, Husband 1.0 should then automatically run the applications Jewellery 2.0 and Flowers 3.5.

But remember, overuse can cause Husband 1.0 to default to Grumpy Silence 2.5, Happy Hour 7.0 or Late Night Teh Tarik 6.1.

Late Night 6.1 is a very bad program that will create SnoringLoudly.wav files.

Whatever you do, DO NOT install Mother-in-Law 1.0 or reinstall another Boyfriend program. These are not supported applications and will crash Husband 1.0.

In summary, Husband 1.0 is a great program, but it does have a limited memory and cannot learn new applications quickly.

You might consider additional software to improve memory and performance. I personally recommend Hot Tasty Food 3.0 and Tongkat Ali 6.9.

Good Luck,
IT Support

Response to Anonymous 2

This post is in response to a comment left by one of my readers. The reason why I brought up this issue isn't regarding forgive or not forgiven. This is something altogether different. If I dislike HL for some reason, the reason is mine and mine alone. My blog is not meant to be a "bashing up other people" behind their backs thing. I just wanted to warn the other students that are going to the ball that their tables have been shuffled around. It's in a way, a warning to HL that there will be more trouble when the night of the ball itself arrives. Please don't ask me to "relax" or "chill". I'm a consumer and I have my rights to get what I paid for. HL chose this project over the motor show. She may have come up with things that the previous ball crew have never thought of before, but the previous ball crews never mucked up like this. From what I remember, people that came late, regardless of whether they pay more or not, sat at the sides.

HL may have to do all this by herself, but I'm sure if she had asked for help from the council, they would have helped her willingly. I already know that she was given a scolding on Saturday over the accounts for the ball. You think she may be the best activities chairperson ever, but I happen to feel otherwise. I feel that she's just average in her abilities, but that's just me… other than that, how can you say that this is the most grand you've seen? The ball isn't till Friday! Anyhow, I am eager to see how it turns out. If it's good, then good for her. This ball is going to be crucial for her presidential running.

I wish her all the luck. She really needs it!

PEOPLE GOING TO THE MONASH BALL! IMPORTANT NEWS!!!

Hey people, as you all know, the ball is this coming Friday. I find it crucial that I inform all my readers on the sudden changes to the table layout. I find it very disturbing that the ball committee for this semester's Monash Ball is so unorganised and irresponsible!

For those that have booked a table for the ball, please go the ball committee and double check with them the position of their tables. There has been a shuffle, and yes, none of us were informed. I was pretty mad on Friday and giving the activities chairperson a good talking to when I found out my tables had been shuffled and I wasn't even informed that there was a change.

Apparently, those that booked the early bird tickets, may have been moved from their original position in the hall. The move is to accommodate the late comers who paid RM95 to our RM85. But I say, SCREW YOU LA for you being so late! I had a freaking stressful time collecting money before the due date for the early bird tickets weh! You, HL, you should know better than to do something like that. It's too underhanded and did you even think that aside from contending with me, you have to deal with the 10++ tables that you reallocated to different spots in the hall?

And she promises us it'll be "The best Monash Ball EVER"

BAH!

A FREAKING DOG HUNT?!??!?

I am thoroughly disgusted… what is our world turning into. We're supposed to civilised right? Well, apparently, the Selayang municipal council members are not. You know why? they authorised a dog hunt competition! What the fuck?! These are living animals that need to be neutered and spayed to properly curb the stray dog situation! It isn't their fault for being strays is it?! It's the irresponsible owners that left them on the street. Imagine if you were the poor things.. you were once loved and pampered, then suddenly, you're tossed onto the street because you're not cute and small anymore, or your owner didn't realise that it takes a lot of responsibility to look after you. It's not the dog that is to blame. Even if you want to remove the strays, I can give you a lot of ideas what to do with the prize money you're offering! Pay SPCA and PAWS to catch the dogs and house them! Let them euthanize them if need! What is wrong with your thinking and mentality?!?!

"Eligible" Bachelors of Monash, Part 4?

After a long and tiresome hunt for single men, i found me two lads. this post is done due to the shameless request of Darren a.k.a Walrus and Jason, the little boy... they both claim to be eligible bachelors, one, a walrus, another is running for mr monash... which is amusing as one of them is too much of a child to be a Mr. heheh! as you can see in the pic to the left, they are soooo close to each other it brings a tear to my eyes! sigh! :P

Darren NPY a.k.a Walrus, Ah-Pek, Panda

This overly friendly, bouncy, crazy, chubby, rosy cheeked, loud, insane, and completely mad fellow is newly single. this is the guy that pranks you if you fall asleep during bus rides or during any trips for the matter... hahah! the picture you see to your right is a flattering pic of a guy trying to look cool in sunglasses. in reality... he's really just a bubbly guy with more than meets the eye...

so, what's the sordid story behind our beloved Darren? he tells us all sorts of things without holding back... when i say everything, i mean EVERYTHING! :P he is a helpful guy that is willing to sit down and talk to his friends and assist them when they are having problems. Darren is also the guy who makes the most noise and makes the room cheery with his insane and at times, pretty lame jokes.

just looking at him, one would never think that he was born in '87. hanging around us old people must have made him look old too! :P Darren is one of a kind, he sweats alot and bounces about all too much. it amazes me how he stays so chubby with all the running around he does!

so yeah, what's the big deal over darren? he's one of the few guys that i know that has dated all three of the main races in malaysia! he loves all girls... he's very hamsap and he tries to make everyone else seem as hamsap as him. he loves to play pranks and was an avid scout back in high school. so girls, if you want someone who's crazy, sweaty and hamsap... Darrren is your choice!
and the pranksters attack! (Inclusive of yvonne and i!!)

Jason Chan a.k.a "The Little Boy", C&S officer

this boy ah... hahah! he can sleep anywhere and anytime! this here speciman of a male is an adorable and acts as child-like as he looks. our beloved Jason is the brunt of so many pranks and jokes that i wonder that he hasn't retaliated and tried to kill us yet! as you can see in the picture above, we managed to put sand, powder and counterpain on him. the smiley on his back is courtesy of the pine needles that i stuck on after spraying his back with insect repellent! :P

anyway, jason is really a child when he has no worries. during our turtle trip, he was the most excited playing with the bioluminant crustaceans and playing in the sand. courtesy of his enthusiasm in mimicking a turtle, he had sand embedded under his finger nails... sigh! that boy ar! but he's a sweet enough little guy (i feel like he's such a little boy!) he constantly gets bullied by the boys due to his rather docile character, but oh wow! look out when Jason means business...

for the girl that would like a child-like and sweet guy (though definitely NOT innocent) jason may seem ideal. though he comes with a warning label! his sweet exterior may not mean a sweet interior! be warned! and he has a rather close relationship with patrick from spongebob! :O

ps... for those that read this post earlier, i have edited on the request of certain people. sorry Darren, for the inconvenience. didn't realise that they're making such a big hoo haa over it! :S (after all, it is my blog...)
